utter destruction
why is so much energy put towards building
if it’s all to be torn down again?
all the new life out there
has but a chance
to be born in a place
where it will be tended to and grown
and even that is no guarantee
of a life of privilege and safety
much pain and hardship has been borne
by those from every background
doctors fleeing homelands
waiters placing bandages
mothers burying sons
daughters bearing arms
weapons trading hands
from blue collar to white
soldiers become farmers
yet the seething mass of humanity
absorbs, redoubles, and embarks again
on the cycle of life
like a freshly sharpened knife
ready to cut through the dark
and introduce some spark of light
it’s a constant fight
