Grass Network User Experience

Decentralized infrastructure has beena hot topic in crypto for a while. Helium was one of the first solutions I heard of, and involved hosting LoRaWAN frequences in exchange for Helium tokens (more about LoRaWAN here). Helium still hosts these types of networks and has now expanded to being a mobile carrier. Another was STEPN, where users walked in exchange for tokens. I’d say most of these effort make me dubious, but I’m always game to try an app or idea.

I’ve been using Grass Network since June. The interview I’ve read makes the team seem very competent, and I think they have found an interesting idea. I also like their blog content. It’s somewhat straightforward — download the app, share browser data and connectivity in exchange for grass points/tokens. Here are my thoughts as a user.

Pros:

  • Easy installation. I think this was a very straight forward installation. I downloaded and installed for chrome.
  • Straight forward user interface. You can track your points, your IP address, your uptime, your networks quality.

Con:

  • I enjoy the simple interface. I wish there was a wallet connection option so that I could understand that hey, this will be a crypto native interface too.
  • I had a 7 year old laptop which would get overwhelmed sometimes buy running grass and multiple other tabs. I think this could be a barrier of entry for some folks who can’t afford to buy a new laptop.

I would recommend trying this app out if you’re an early adopter type. There is a mobile app coming as well. If you want to join, feel free to use my referral code: https://app.getgrass.io/register/?referralCode=cYPqUIkcn9NKfoR.
