we’ve seen ghosts
we see them every day
they haunt city corners
and sell newspapers at the traffic stops
we look into their eyes
and quickly look away; our pulses drop
their stories differ
can’t shove them into one box
not all are druggies, drifters, and liars
yet they are still ghosts
transparent to most of us
clearly paying for some sort of sin
let atonement begin
are these age old problems?
a matter of economics, reality, values and little will to solve them?
too busy with our own lives
and strifes
blessed are those who do
listen and tend to the ghosts
they may seem crazy
but ghosts do dwell among us
and unlike ghostbusters who destroy
those soothsayers make them human again
